What is Moli?

Moli is a production-ready headless browser for AI agents, built in Rust. Its on-demand layout and rendering design combines a complete browser runtime with a lightweight resource footprint.

It helps agents fetch and extract web pages, search the web and automate browser tasks through the CLI, CDP, WebDriver Classic or WebDriver BiDi, on Linux, macOS and Windows — with no separate ChromeDriver, geckodriver or browser installation required.

Key features

  • Fetch and extract pages as HTML, Markdown, JSON or semantic text trees
  • On-demand layout and paint — structure-first operations skip rendering entirely
  • Screenshots, full-page screenshots and PDFs via --layout
  • Unified automation binary — CDP, WebDriver Classic and WebDriver BiDi share one kernel, no separate driver install
  • Complete web runtime — V8 JavaScript, DOM, CSS, networking, storage and cookies
  • Profiles, proxies, resource policies and diagnostic logging controls

Pros

  • Apache-2.0 open source
  • No separate browser or driver install required
  • Light footprint — layout and pixels only when needed
  • Works with Playwright over CDP

Cons

  • Full visual capabilities need the --layout flag
  • Installing means downloading a prebuilt binary or building from Rust source

How to choose the right Coding & Development tool

The right coding tool depends on where you write code and how much of your codebase it can understand. IDE integration is the first filter — a tool that lives in your editor, sees your project files and respects your stack will help far more than a general chatbot you paste snippets into. Look for accurate completions, clear explanations of suggested changes, and strong refactoring and debugging support for your main languages. Privacy deserves real attention: check whether your code is used for training, and whether a self-hosted or enterprise option exists for sensitive projects. Price against the hours it actually saves — most developers feel the difference within the first week of real use.
