What is Plango?

Plango is a local cyber-intelligence model for your Mac, built for the age of AI coding agents: it gives agents the freedom to build without the freedom to destroy, covering Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and the other major agent tools.

It controls what agents can reach, watches network activity for exfiltration, moves secrets into the Keychain, scans skills and plugins for hidden instructions, and checks projects for known vulnerabilities. A 7-day free trial needs no card; after that it is $4.99 per month.

Key features

  • Control agent access — keep SSH keys, .env files and tagged folders out of reach
  • Watch every connection and decide where apps and agents can talk
  • Move plain-text keys out of .env files into the macOS Keychain
  • Scan skills and plugins for hidden instructions and hooks
  • Check every project for libraries with known CVEs
  • Full Mac audit — app permissions, privacy settings, startup items and extensions
  • On-device security AI, or bring another local agent or your own API key

Pros

  • Protection runs on your Mac, not in the cloud
  • 7-day free trial needs no card and never turns into a paid plan
  • Covers the agent tools developers actually use
  • One view of every event, request, decision and block

Cons

  • Mac only — Apple silicon, macOS 15 or newer, and at least 16 GB of memory
  • A subscription works on one Mac at a time

How to choose the right Security tool

Security tools protect accounts, devices and data, so the first question is what exactly is being protected — passwords, browsing, files, identity or a whole network — and against which threats. Prefer tools from established vendors with transparent practices: independent audits, clear data policies and a record of fixing vulnerabilities quickly matter more than long feature lists. Check how the tool balances protection with friction; security you disable because it annoys you protects nothing. For password and identity tools, strong encryption and zero-knowledge design are the standards to look for. Finally, remember that no tool replaces basic hygiene — unique passwords, two-factor authentication and regular updates do most of the protective work, and a good tool makes all three easier.
